The E. A. Hawse Health Center provides professional opportunities in medical, dental, radiology and health support services. The center attempts to recruit professionals that have the desire to live in a rural area. The Health Center has an excellent track record on retaining professional staff.

E.A. Hawse Health Center is a non-profit federally qualified health center. It was constructed in 1980-1981. In 1981, the center opened its doors to the community, marking the founding of commitment to meet the healthcare needs of people throughout Hardy County. In October 1998, the Mathias Branch opened providing medical and dental services for members of the Mathias community and neighboring areas.

As we enter into 21st Century, our mission continues to provide affordable and quality care to our neighbors in this area. As the number of patients receiving our services has expanded, so have our services and our need for professional, as well as, supporting staff.

Our overall goal is to be competitive in terms of salary and benefit packages to assure long-term commitment of present providers. Attention is given to individual professionals regularly at the time of employment and at each anniversary date. Attempt is made to keep the staff member happy, content, and to feel ownership in the organization.

Professionals are given annual leave time, sick leave days, continuing educational leave, personal days, administrative time, approved time off for meetings beneficial to the staff member and the organization, continuing educational allowance, travel, tuition and professional allowance. Continuing Professional Education is addressed in the providers individuals contracts. The Center pays rates which are competitive with the job market and feasible within Center resources.

The Hardy County area offers affordable housing and academically high rated schools and a friendly community atmosphere. In addition, Hardy County, part of which is located within he George Washington Nation Forest, offers clean air, beautiful mountain scenery, lakes, rivers and many recreational opportunities. Most of our service area is made up of rolling foothills with small villages and towns scattered throughout.
