| The
E. A. Hawse Health Center is the sponsoring organization
of the Hardy County School-Based Health Project, with
on-site school-based clinics established in three schools,
East Hardy Early/Middle Childhood School, Moorefield
Elementary and Moorefield Middle School. These clinics
also serve students attending East Hardy High and Moorefield
High schools.
The
emphasis of the SBHC program is to improve access
to health services thereby improving the health status
and school performance of students in the Hardy County
schools. Project activities for SBHC services are
coordinated with the School Nurse and the School Wellness
Program.
Each
SBHC is staffed by a PA-C or nurse practitioner and assisted by a Medical Assistant. Services provided each
school day include comprehensive primary, preventative
and acute care, support and counseling for chronic
conditions, case management, and referrals.
Individual
and group mental health counseling services are also
provided through the SBHC project by licensed mental
health therapists and clinical social workers each
school day, in each school.
